Evaluating Maximum Oxygen Intake and Exercise Intensity Using a Decision Tree Approach: Towards Personalized Exercise Prescription

Hyunki Hong, Sung-Jong Eun | JDMCT 1(2) 69-76

Abstract : With escalating rates of obesity and related health issues due to sedentary lifestyles and poor dietary habits, precise prescription of exercise intensity has gained utmost importance. Traditional methods of determining exercise intensity rely on statistical formulas, which may not accurately reflect individual differences. The purpos of this study is to present an innovative approach utilizing the Decision Tree method and the Classification and Regression Tree (CART) algorithm to estimate exercise intensity, drawing on biometric data including maximum oxygen uptake, oxygen intake reserve, maximum heart rate, and heart rate reserve. The approach was tested on 20 men with relative exercise intensity determined using the Heart Rate Reserve (HRR). Results revealed that this approach could accurately estimate maximum oxygen uptake up to 70% HRR with an error rate less than 10%.

Enhancing Early Breast Cancer Detection Using Transfer Learning, Deep Feature Extraction and SVM Classification

G. Hemanth, N. Thirupathi Rao | JDMCT 1(2) 77-84

Abstract : In recent years, breast cancer has emerged as one of the most common types of cancer among women globally. Late diagnosis often results in a higher mortality rate, underlining the crucial need for effective early detection systems, especially those leveraging personal imaging data. In this regard, this study focuses on the integration of transfer learning and deep feature extraction techniques to adapt pretrained CNN models to breast cancer detection. Specifically, AlexNet and VGG16 are employed for feature extraction, with further tuning conducted on AlexNet. The derived features are then classified using Support Vector Machines (SVM). A comprehensive evaluation is carried out using a publicly available breast cancer dataset based on surgical and cellular pathology. Accuracy scores serve as performance metrics. The findings underscore the superior performance of the transfer learning approach compared to the combination of deep feature extraction and SVM classification.

Tombs as Landscapes of Authority: A Study of Hierarchical Significance and Artifactual Evidence in the Jisan-dong Tomb Group of Daegaya

Tae-Geun Park | JDMCT 1(2) 105-111

Abstract : In the study of Dagaya, tombs are a very important element. The hierarchy of tombs and excavated artifacts are cited as evidence for the development of Gaya as an ancient state. This study analyzed the critical role of tombs within the context of Daegaya, particularly emphasizing their hierarchical significance and the artifacts unearthedthese sites as evidence for the evolution of Gaya into an ancient state. For this, this study examined the location of tombs with the focus on the Jisan-dong tomb group, a large group of tombs consisting of 704 tombs with a large number of artifacts such as golden caskets. It suggestd that the role of tombs as humanistic landscapes rather than the form of tombs can reveal the fact that tombs are evidence of the authority of the ruling class and monuments that guarantee the legitimacy of their rule.

Utilization of Modern Buildings for Urban Regeneration in Gunsan City: Opportunities, Challenges, and Future Prospects

Tae-Hun Kim | JDMCT 1(2) 113-120

Abstract : Urban regeneration initiatives have become instrumental in rejuvenating declining cities with Gunsan City to serve as a notable success story in effectively leveraging modern buildings. Distinguished by its vibrant history, Gunsan boasts a unique architectural landscape that sets it apartother regions. However, despite various policy endeavors aimed at capitalizing on these distinct characteristics, limitations have surfaced due to inadequate awareness, limited regional publicity and a lack of well-defined urban regeneration strategies. The purpose of this paper is to examine the Gunsan’s modern and contemporary history, explore its architectural heritage and propose actionable steps to address these limitations within the framework of the modern cultural city project. By conducting comprehensive research, this paper expects to harness the potential of Gunsan’s modern history and culture as catalysts for regional revitalization, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for local residents and propelling policy initiatives in Gunsan forward.

Examining the Management and Utilization Policy of Cultural Landscapes in Village Settings: A Case Study of Hahoe Village in South Korea

Su-Yeon Kwon | JDMCT 1(2) 121-130

Abstract : Historical buildings are instrumental in preserving the ethos of a specific era, serving as crucial conduits for contemporary individuals to experience the past. Accordingly, this study investigates the significance of historical buildings as repositories of past societal and cultural narratives while offering contemporary individuals a means to engage with bygone eras. Through an examination of diverse international village cultural landscapes shaped by human activities over time, this study specifically focuses on analyzing the management and utilization policies implemented in Hahoe Village. As a representative case within the national context, the study sheds light on the inadequacies of current cultural heritage protection policies in considering the resident community, which has maintained historical continuity and adaptability to societal changes. The preservation of cultural properties in Hahoe Village, situated in Andong, necessitates an increased understanding among residents and the cultivation of active cooperation within the framework of management and utilization policies.

JinYeong Choi | JDMCT 1(2) 131-141

Abstract : This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the renowned artist Frank Stella’s works with focus on his artistic trajectorythe 1950s to the 1980s. By providing a detailed analysis of his works and their theoretical underpinnings, the purpose of this study is to investigate how Stella’s artistic practice disrupts traditional notions of painting and engages with the concept of space. Through Stella’s artistic journey, the paper argues for his innovative role in redefining painting and highlights his journeythe limitations of flatness to the realm of three-dimensional space. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to a deeper understanding of Stella’s artistic evolution during this critical period and its implications for the broader field of abstract art.
